Job Overview:

As a VMware Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, installation, configuration, management, and troubleshooting of the organization's VMware virtual environment. You will ensure system availability and reliability, monitor system performance, and maintain system security. You will also participate in disaster recovery initiatives and platform upgrades.

Responsibilities:

VMware Infrastructure Management: Design, implement, manage, and maintain the organization's VMware infrastructure, including vSphere, vCenter, vCloud director and related components.

System Administration: Perform day-to-day system administration tasks such as provisioning virtual machines, managing vSphere clusters, and implementing VMware tools.

System Troubleshooting & Support: Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to the VMware infrastructure, working closely with IT support teams and end users.

Performance Tuning & Capacity Planning: Monitor system performance and conduct regular capacity planning to ensure that the VMware infrastructure meets current and future business needs.

Security & Compliance: Implement and manage security controls to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of the VMware environment. Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

Disaster Recovery: Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing and implement measures to improve system resiliency.

Documentation: Document all system configurations, procedures, and changes. Maintain accurate inventory of all VMware assets.

Project Management: Participate in and manage projects related to the VMware environment, which may involve coordinating with other IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. Professional certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) are highly desirable.

Experience: At least 5 years of experience in system administration or engineering, with a strong focus on VMware products.

Technical Skills: Deep expertise in VMware products such as vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, and NSX. Familiarity with other IT infrastructure technologies such as storage, networking, and server hardware is also required. Experience with scripting and automation (using tools like PowerCLI or Ansible) is a plus.

Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements: Depending on the specific role and location, this may involve working in a data center environment and handling heavy equipment.

Other: Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and to travel, as needed.
